| NURSE AIDE TRAINING PROGRAM |
Full Course: The nurse aide program prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to become a nurse aide and for entry level employment in a long term care facility, doctor’s office, and clinic, hospital or home health agency.
This program consists of a single 8 week module, which includes: classroom, lab, and clinical skills training. Classes and labs are scheduled three days a week, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with clinical training on Friday evening 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and all day Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please note clinical training is only twice within the 8 week course.
Refresher/Review Course: The purpose of this training is to properly prepare students for the state nurse aide exam. The refresher course is only 4 hours and consists of a lecture and skills lab training. This program is designed to provide training for the following individuals:
- Expired nurse aide certification,
- Those who have failed the nurse aide state examination and would like to retest.
- Student nurses currently enrolled in a nursing LVN or RN program.
- Those who have completed a certified nurse aide program but has not taken the nurse aide exam.
State Examination/Test Only: Students who have lost their certification and choose not to take the refresher/review course (Fee is $250.00)
All individuals listed above except #4, must have a letter of approval from the Texas Department of Aging and Disability to take the nurse aide exam. Method of Payment: All fees must be paid in the form of cash, money order, cashier check, or funding source agency check. All financial arrangements must be completed before starting class. Students will not be allowed to take the state nurse aid exam if financial obligations are not completed. Financial aid is available.
Job Readiness: The purpose of this course is to help students to identify their interests and job skills and set the path toward finding a job that’s right for them. This course length is four hours and provides information about conducting a job search, preparing a resume, completing a job application, practicing interviews and learning new job skills.
Financial Literacy: This course was developed to educate students on how to set financial goals and develop a plan to achieve those goals. This program is three hours and designed to assist students in the development of an awareness of the consequences regarding financial decisions and how to demonstrate effective decision making skills.
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): This course educates students on how to perform Health Care Provider and/or Basic Life Support CPR. Training is also provided on the use and operation of an AED (Auto External Defibrillator) device. CPR provides oxygenated blood to the brain and heart and keeps these organs alive until defibrillation can shock the heart into a normal rhythm.
First Aid: This basic first aid course will educate students to the initial process of assessing and addressing the needs of someone who has been injured or is in psychological distress due to choking, a heart attack, allergic reactions, drugs or alcohol or other medical emergencies.
